ASI 101-14

The ASI 101-14 is a 12 x 16 in. framed commercial mirror whose reflecting surface is #8 mirror-polished stainless steel rather than glass, made for security and other unbreakable applications where glass cannot be used. The frame is 14 gauge type 304 stainless steel with a satin finish, and the unit is chase mounted from behind the wall. ASI lists it as ADA compliant.

Frame corners are welded and ground smooth, so there is no seam to catch or pry. Six T nuts welded to the back accept bolts driven from the chase side of the wall, which leaves no fasteners on the room side for an occupant to remove. A fiberboard backing supports the polished panel. The unit is 5/8 in. (16 mm) thick overall, and ASI asks that the wall thickness be specified when it exceeds 6 in. (152 mm) so the mounting can be matched to it.

A polished stainless mirror does not shatter, which makes it the usual choice for restrooms with vandalism concerns. Mount it so the bottom of the reflecting surface is no more than 40 in. above the floor over a lavatory, per ADA 603.3. The 101 series comes in other sizes, listed separately.
