About Panic Exit Devices
Panic exit devices (panic bars, crash bars) are required by IBC and NFPA 101 on egress doors serving assembly occupancies of 50+, educational of 50+, and most other occupancies of 100+. There are four standard configurations: rim, surface vertical rod (SVR), concealed vertical rod (CVR), and mortise. Each suits different door and frame conditions. We quote Grade 1 (ANSI/BHMA A156.3) devices from Von Duprin, Yale, and Dormakaba in all standard finishes and fire ratings.

Panic Exit Devices: common questions
Single-door egress = rim device, simplest. Paired doors with active and inactive leaves = SVR (surface) or CVR (concealed inside the door). CVR looks cleanest but costs more and is harder to service. Mortise is used where a deeper lock case is preferred for security or trim.
