ASI 8204

The ASI 8204 is a compact rectangular folding shower seat, 18 in. wide, for accessible showers where a full L-shaped seat will not fit. The padded seat has a 5/16 in. (8 mm) thick one-piece black core phenolic base, and the frame, support legs, flanges, and bracket are type 304 stainless steel with a satin finish. Folded down the seat is 18 in. wide by 15-1/4 in. deep, with the top set 17 to 19 in. above the floor.

A self-locking mechanism holds the seat in the down position while it carries a user and releases so it folds up against the wall. Folded up, the unit measures 18 in. by 28 to 30 in. by 15-1/4 in. (457 x 711 to 762 x 387 mm). The cushion is sponge covered in off-white Naugahyde, a padded surface rather than bare phenolic, and it wipes down with the rest of the shower.

The 17 to 19 in. seat height matches ADA 610.3, and ASI lists the 8204 as ADA compliant; ADA 610.4 requires a shower seat to carry a 250 lb load at any point. ADA 610 calls for a folding seat in a transfer shower, and the 18 in. width is the reason to pick this model over a wider seat when the compartment is tight.
