A grab bar is the one restroom accessory an inspector will measure. The 2010 ADA Standards (Section 609) call for a gripping surface 1-1/4 to 2 in. in diameter, 1-1/2 in. clear of the wall, mounted 33 to 36 in. above the finished floor, and able to hold a 250 lb load in any direction. We stock the bars that meet that spec from Bobrick, Bradley, ASI, and Gamco: 18-gauge type 304 stainless steel in 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 in. diameters, straight lengths from 12 to 48 in., 90-degree and L-shaped configurations for the side and rear wall of an accessible compartment, swing-up bars for ambulatory stalls, and peened or matte black finishes where slip resistance or design calls for them. Every bar page lists the diameter, length, flange type, and finish so it can be matched to an accessory schedule line by line. Concealed snap flanges give a clean look; exposed flanges with mounting plates are the choice for retrofit work where blocking is uncertain.
